Intro for Jonda

I am currently in my last quarter as an undergraduate student. I am majoring in early childhood education with hopes of teaching Kindergarten or First Grade. In August I will start my Master's degree from Mount Vernon Nazarene University. In my free time I enjoy gardening, shopping, scrap booking, reading, swimming and spending time with my family and friends. I also do a lot of babysitting and enjoy going to activities that involve the kids I babysit.

Steam Train Maury Graham was the most interesting to me. I learned a lot through his story. I really liked learning about the difference between a bum and a hobo as well as where the word hobo came from. I remember dressing up as a hobo for Halloween one year but never really knew what they did other than jump on and off of trains during the depression. I also found it interesting that the hobos carried their goods on the end of the hoe handles. I have seen this in different shows and we use to say that people who were running away would carry their belongings like this.

This seems to be a very interesting book and I look forward to reading more stories throughout the quarter.

  1. I'm also thinking about being a Kindergarten or first grade teacher and that's exciting that you are in your last quarter of undergrad school :)

  2. Jonda, first of all, I like your name! It's unique! Second, congrats on starting your master's degree in August, hope all continues to go well. I have to agree with you on the passage, it was my favorite for the same reason. I like how the writing shows and tells the audience different facts about the hobo community!

  3. I'm jealous that you are on your last quarter here about to graduate. It feels like I've been here forever waiting to apply to graduate school, but congrats and I hope you enjoy getting your Masters.

  4. I enjoy swimming too! I also found it interesting the difference between a hobo and a bum.
