Essay One - Pressence of Fear
I actually found the very last idea, XXVII, to be the most thought provoking because I believe it is something that people struggle to understand in the United States. Berry says "we must begin to teach our children that we cannot spend and consume endlessly." I love this thought and I think that is very true, however, many adults don't understand the concept of saving money. If you want to be financially fit in the long run you have to learn how to manage your money now. It's important to have a "cushion" of money for when those unexpected things come up. Another point that Berry brings up in this section is conserving and not wasting. Again we are so fortunate in the United States to have everything we could ever need right at our finger tips that we sometimes take advantage of it and become wasteful. I know that I sometimes take our freedom and way of life for granted and don't think about the other people in the world who don't have it nearly as easy as we do. These are just a couple different things that we as Americans need to think about and consider making a small changes in order to build a better economy for the future.
