In the Presence of Fear

The most provoking and worthy discussion in the book is passage VII. The passage says "We did not anticipate anything what has now happened. We did not foresee that all our sequence of innovations might be overridden by a greater one: the invention of a new kind of war that would turn our previous innovations against us, discovering and exploiting the debits and dangers that we had ignored" (Berry 3). The passage shows how technology has overtaken our society and how technology can affect the way people act. Just think September 11th happened with airplanes in which were created to travel across the country. What would have happened that day if airplanes did not exist? Do you think the towers would have been attacked if airplanes were never invented. We live in a society where technology is everything. One day, technology may take over the world.

  1. You have a great point Samantha. I never thought about what might have happened if airplanes didn't exist. It is amazing how much the world depends on technology and also scary to think that the world may operate completely on technology someday.

  2. I love your point because it is true that the nation relies on technology. I don't think that 3/4 of the nation could even survive without going insane if we lost technology.

    1. I agree with you I think technology is one of those things that can either help you or hurt you. Also I never thought about if airplanes did not exist that was a great way to look at it.

  3. I agree with you too. The world will probably one day be taken over by technology because we depend some much on it.
